Tips and Tricks for Coloring the Bee Drawing
Coloring the Bee:
Let’s start with our friendly bee, who becomes the center of attention. The first thing to think about is how you want her to feel: happy? energetic? calm? You can express that by choosing warm colors — like bright yellows for her body and orange or golden tones for depth. If you’re using colored pencils, apply soft layers first, and then enhance the shadows with gentle browns or grays around the edges to create volume.
The wings are a bit of a challenge and also one of the most creative parts. In nature, bee wings are almost transparent with a slight shimmer. You can use a white pencil over a very light gray base, and a touch of light blue or lilac to suggest the reflection of the sky. If you’re using markers, draw lines very carefully to keep them thin and light. The key is not to overdo the color, but to suggest it. Leaving some parts white is also part of the art.
Coloring the Scenery:
The flower field tells a whole other story — this is where you can really go wild. There are daisies, tulips, wildflowers… You can play with a wide range of colors. Notice how nature is harmonious even though not all flowers look the same. Try using different greens for stems and leaves (emerald, olive, even a hint of turquoise). Flowers can be soft pastels or vibrant tones, depending on the mood you want to convey. Can you imagine some flowers glowing because the bee already visited them? You can use a bit of yellow around them, as if they’re glowing.
The composition has movement — the bee is flying, so you can suggest her path with a tiny shadow stroke under her body on the field. This will make her look like she’s floating. Use a very light gray or brown pencil.
