Graphomotor skills: straight lines

Qualify the resource:
Thanks for tu opinión!

Graphomotor skills, a fundamental ability in child development, lay the foundation for the acquisition of reading and writing. This worksheet focuses on a specific activity: practicing horizontal strokes. Through sequential exercises, students will explore reproducing straight lines of equal and different lengths, culminating in tracing the lines of a road. The main objective is to strengthen fine motor control, hand-eye coordination, and left-right directionality-crucial skills for future learning.

Educational Resource Instructions

Primary Objective: Develop and improve the ability to perform horizontal strokes with control and precision.

Specific Objectives:

  • Discriminate and reproduce horizontal strokes of equal length.
  • Discriminate and reproduce horizontal strokes of different lengths.
  • Practice visual tracking and hand-eye coordination while tracing horizontal lines.
  • Foster left-to-right directionality in writing.

Horizontal Strokes of the Same Size

1. Ask the student to observe the model stroke at the top.
2. Have them trace the model stroke.
3. Instruct the student to complete the dotted lines below, aiming to match the length of the model stroke.

Horizontal Strokes of Different Sizes

1. Point out the different model strokes.
2. Ask the student to trace each model.
3. Have them complete the dotted lines below, replicating the length of each corresponding model.

Trace the Road Lines

1. Explain that the dashed lines represent a road.
2. Ask the student to trace the dashed lines, staying within the boundaries carefully.
3. Encourage them to imagine cars driving along the road.

Teacher Notes:

  • Monitor the student’s pencil pressure.
  • Observe stroke directionality (left-to-right is ideal).
  • Assess accuracy in reproducing stroke lengths.
  • Determine if the student needs additional visual or verbal support.
  • Adapt activities based on individual needs (e.g., use larger/smaller strokes, reduce repetitions).
